This morning, Sue, Fred and Linda opted to bike the five miles to downtown Key West. Van and I chose to take an air-conditioned bus ride. Every choice has options, and choosing the bus meant I missed the 0-mile marker and the southern most point picture spot. Therefore, I will need to make those tourist spots on Thursday. We headed for Sloppy Joe’s and started the morning with a drink. Then we headed for a tour of the Hemmingway House. We had a great tour guide and learned a lot about the legendary American writer. Throughout the house, we spotted several of the six-toed cats. After the tour we headed to lunch at Blue Heaven, another Sue recommendation. Due to the frequency of bus trips back to the campground, we headed back to camp because in the evening we have a trolley tour sponsored by Bubba Fest.
As a group, Bubba Fest used three trolleys for a tour of downtown Key West; we saw many of the local attractions as we shouted “Argghhhh” from the trolley. (We were wearing our Bubba Fest pirate t-shirts.) At the conclusion of the trolley tour we had dinner at the Conch Republican Seafood Company. Following dinner there was a scavenger hunt throughout downtown Key West that put us into bars and local tourist spots. I was part of the “yellow” team and knew only one other team mate (Van). We came in second place. Not bad! Tomorrow is an all day trip to the Dry Tortugas National Park.
