Although today’s average mph was similar to yesterday, the ride didn’t seem quite as hard. It was a little more miserable because we rode in the rain the first 40 miles and then off and on for the rest of the day. I didn’t take my rain jacket because when we left in the morning it was just a sprinkle and the forecast only called for an hour of rain. I didn’t want the extra layer if it would be over quickly – so by the time we got to camp today, we were all thoroughly soaked. A hot shower felt phenomenal.
We stopped for lunch at Ofelia’s in Uvalde. I split a burger and it was delicious! Shortly after lunch we entered Texas hill country. There probably were gorgeous photo opportunities, but it was tough to tell through the rain. The up hills would have made for good down hills, except for the rain, and having to ride the shoulder to avoid traffic coming from the rear. We did have one semi cross the white line and come into the shoulder just as he passed us. Gave us a scare we didn’t deserve because we were well out of the lane of traffic.
We actually have a little cabin for the next two nights as tomorrow is a rest day. My knees need the rest. The bumpy roads tend to make them ache more. When we ride next, I am guessing my Garmin Connect link to follow live will not work as there is no phone service here and only one bench where you can get guest internet.
