We started the day with the official check-in at 9:00am. We were given luggage tags that had a tent number listed so that the SAG team will know where to put our bags each day. We also received some swag that included: a long sleeve shirt, short sleeve shirt, back pack, a small sling style sack to use on daily rides to store jackets and such as we shed layers, a baseball cap and a fluorescent vest which we must always wear while riding.
We walked as a group from the hotel to a local restaurant where we had a rider meeting with Bubba discussing safety rules, road logistics, and other needed information. We spent part of the time meeting each rider. Each of us shared just a little bit about ourselves. Of course, I shared my love of MSU and then choked up when I talked about why I was riding – because it was on Doug’s and my bucket list. I made it through and Bubba gave me a big hug and told me that Doug would be riding with me.
Tomorrow we will depart the hotel parking lot at 9:00am for wheel dipping in the Pacific Ocean. We start riding east at 9:30am!
